A brief history
A brief history
Alstonefield has had a village hall since 1921. The original building was known as the Institute, located just a few hundred yards away, on the site of what is now the small Harpur Crewe development of homes. The old building was in fact two second-hand military huts joined together, purchased with funds from the United Service Fund. It was established as, and remains, a registered charity - you can find us on the Charity Commission website here.

In 1985, a new village hall was established in the former village school, and formally named 'Alstonefield Memorial Hall & Community Centre'. Since then, to quote a former Chair, the late Jean Allen, the premises have been transformed into “...a first-class village amenity which we can be proud of and will benefit our community for years to come.”
We are fortunate to also own the the adjoining former school garden, which is free to use by all.
The village playing field (Playing Field) is owned and managed by the Parish Council rather than the Village Hall. It is the location for the Cricket Club’s home matches and practice sessions, and is available for hire. For information and bookings contact the Clerk via the Parish Council website.

A Post Office outreach service operates in the Village Hall on Mondays,12:00 – 2:00pm. Most of the services you would expect from a normal branch are available. For more information, visit the Post Office page for Alstonefield here.
Defibrillator
Defibrillator
There is defibrillator, registered with the emergency services, located in the (unlocked) entrance lobby of the Village Hall. (There is another on the wall of the toilet block in Milldale.) The unit is designed to be used by anyone – no training is required. When the unit is opened, voice instructions guide the user through the process. It is automatic, and will check the heart rhythm to confirm that a shock is required.
